Had a laptop off empire stores and they sent it without an adaptor.?

I rang them to send it back they told me to go and buy one. Read the leaflet with it which says if you do not use there equipment the guarantee is void. told them I did not want it. I have phoned and wrote to them to fetch it and this morning had a letter from a dept collection agency for full payment. What are my rights
