What breed do should i get?

my parents and i are going to the shelter to adopt a dog. no large sized dogs.. just small ones. what breed dog is kind, playful, sweet? and i need a list of things i should get for her(yes we are getting a little girl..puppy), how often should i feed her and walk her? i love puppies.
